What is QESCO?

QESCO, or Quetta Electric Supply Company (کوئٹہ الیکٹرک سپلائی کمپنی), operates as a power distribution company in Balochistan, covering 43% of Pakistan’s area. It is responsible for supplying electricity to the entire Balochistan region, excluding the Lasbela district.

QESCO began operations on July 1, 1998, following the corporate conversion and commercialization of WAPDA. It took over the management of WAPDA’s assets and liabilities after reorganizing the former Energy District Board into a corporation. Currently, QESCO is administered by the Ministry of Water and Power of the Government of Pakistan.

Despite having the smallest number of consumers, QESCO faces immense pressure due to high demand from agricultural consumers, accounting for 70-80% of the demand. The system is grappling with low voltage issues due to long distances from generating sources and limited supply.
