Peshawar Electric Supply Company

Peshawar Electric Supply Company was formed on 22 March 1998 out of the former Area Electricity Board Peshawar, part of WAPDA's original network of regional electricity boards, and placed under the Ministry of Energy's Power Division.

In January 2023 the government carved the Hazara-region circles out of PESCO to create a separate company, HAZECO, headquartered in Abbottabad. PESCO's remaining territory is now organised around the Peshawar, Khyber, Swat, Bannu, Mardan and Swabi circles.

What to review

Before you pay

  • Current and previous readings should make sense against the meter actually installed at your property, not just your memory of last month's bill.
  • Units belong in comparison with last month and the same month last year, not only with the amount you expected to pay.
  • Arrears should be traced back through your own receipts before you accept them as a new balance you owe.
  • Taxes, the FPA and quarterly adjustments can move the total even when your units look completely normal.
  • Your tariff category should match how the connection is actually used — this matters most for shops, rented units and mixed-use buildings.
  • The same charge shouldn't appear twice in one bill, and a payment you already made shouldn't still be sitting in arrears next month.

Where the PESCO bill amount comes from

Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA)

A variable monthly charge NEPRA approves to reflect real fuel costs. It can add to your bill or shave it down, and it moves independently of how much you actually used.

Quarterly Tariff Adjustment (QTA)

Reviewed every few months instead of monthly, this covers capacity, transmission and distribution costs spread across all consumers in the region.

General Sales Tax (GST)

A federal tax applied to your electricity charges. It rises and falls with your bill total rather than sitting at one fixed rupee amount.

Electricity Duty

A provincial tax charged on the units you consume — the more you use, the more duty you pay.

TV Fee (PTV)

A small fixed monthly charge collected for Pakistan Television. It shows up on domestic bills whether or not anyone in the house owns a TV.

Meter Rent / Fixed Charges

A flat monthly amount for the meter installed at your property, charged separately from your actual unit consumption.

PESCO bill questions

Is Abbottabad still billed by PESCO?

No. Since January 2023, Abbottabad and the rest of the Hazara region are billed by a separate company, HAZECO, which was split off from PESCO. If your old bill said PESCO but you're in Hazara, check the HAZECO bill check page instead.

Which areas does PESCO cover now?

After the 2023 split, PESCO's core circles are Peshawar, Khyber, Swat, Bannu, Mardan and Swabi.

Why did PESCO split into two companies?

The Hazara region had long asked for its own distribution company rather than being managed as part of Peshawar's territory. The government created HAZECO in January 2023 to serve Hazara separately, leaving PESCO with its remaining core districts.
